SDB Meets & Events Terms and Conditions

When you book to hunt with the SDB, or attend a hunt meet/event, you are agreeing to the following conditions for your own safety and the safety of others. Riding a horse is a risk activity, and the level of risk is determined by the rider's choices and competence . Hunting involves riding across untamed countryside, where the rider has to constantly assess the risks that appear before them. This includes negotiating obstacles, rough ground that may have holes, and keeping clear of other riders if they are having problems. As such, a reasonable level of equestrian competence is essential. Riders take part entirely at their own risk. The officers of the SDB, the landowners and the farmers disclaim all liability for any loss or damage to persons or property.

RIDERS MUST

1. Wear appropriate clothing and safety wear for hunting. See the "SDB Guide" for more information on "Dress". Body protectors are optional. For those new to hunting, plain riding wear in sober colours is acceptable for the first few outings.

2. The advertised meet time, is the time you should be on your horse, NOT arriving at the meet.  Meet times might vary, so please check in advance. We will not wait for latecomers.  Being late will not only inconvenience others, but will also cause unnecessary stress for you and/or your horse.

3. Remain at all times behind the appointed Field Master. This person will be introduced at the start of the day. Those riding strong or excitable horses are highly recommended to ride towards the back of the field which allows plenty of time to pull up/turn a circle before reaching the front of the field.

4. Ensure your horse is wearing a red ribbon in its tail if it kicks, and ride at the back of the field.

5. Give way to, and do as instructed by, the Masters and Hunt Staff. Failure to co-operate may result in you being sent home without re-imbursement of the cap.  Anyone behaving badly may be sent home without refund of cap paid.

6. KEEP OFF ALL CROPS AND DO NOT FOLLOW THE HUNT STAFF (who wear mustard coats).

7. You are responsible for ensuring you are insured for third party risks.

PLEASE NOTE

There are no qualified first aiders. Riders should carry inside a pocket, a note with details of their name, address and ICE contact number, so that appropriate action can be taken in the event of an accident.

Read carefully each meet entry on the Hunts website meet page, as conditions for each meet might vary. Also, check the meet page the night before the meet to see if there have been any changes.

Booking in must be done by email to Secretary@SouthDownsBloodhounds.com. Payment must be made within 48 hours of receiving a booking confirmation email from the Hunt Secretary or the place will be offered to someone else. There will be a limit on numbers for most meets so early booking for all meets is recommended. If the meet is fully booked, you can ask to go on a waiting list to see if there are any cancellations.  If there is space available, we will accept caps on the day, but check with the Honorary Hunt Secretary in advance.

It is possible that weather conditions will require us to limit numbers below the number booked in. In such circumstances those last to book in will be advised by the hunt secretary that places are no longer available and they can either have a refund, or transfer their booking to another date.

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the event by emailing Secretary@southdownsbloodhounds.com. Cancellations after this time will not be refunded.  However you may sell your place to someone else PROVIDED you do not take more than you paid for the place.
